A Brief History about Bruce

Bruce Tallman finds satisfaction in bringing closure to projects and accomplishing his objectives, but he’s also willing to drop whatever he’s doing to help someone else. His career began humbly, shoveling parsley for Campbell Soup Company in Ohio. Today, he leads the technical service department at Walker Manufacturing Company. Despite his leadership role, Bruce describes himself as a plain, bib overalls kind of person who believes in hard work, dedication and helping others to succeed and grow.

At Walker, Bruce started by answering phone calls from people in need of technical assistance with their lawn mowers. That role broadened to doing technical service training. When his manager left the company, Bruce was given the opportunity to lead the department. Today, he oversees warranties, training, customer service, customer technical service and technical documentation. As Bruce and his team continue to help Walker’s customers each day, his role continues to grow and develop.

Bruce wants to help customers and his team by sharing everything he knows. He’s acquired a variety of skills throughout his career including those of a mechanic, a machinist, a supervisor and an electrician. He enjoys applying that knowledge to the lawn mower industry. Leveraging his past experience as a plant manager at another company, he’s learned the satisfaction that comes from being at the right place. Bruce says, “We don’t always understand what kind of influence we have on other people. I’ve learned as I’ve matured and that makes me believe more that I’m where I need to be.”

Hard work is something else Bruce believes in. For him, success is earned and not just given; it takes effort. When asked how he defines success, Bruce says, “It’s being a good dad, husband, worker, leader, manager, supervisor and being a godly person to the best of your ability.” Living in relationships with others and being a part of something meaningful is also part of that definition. He hopes to be an example of a successful person as he continues to learn and improve in his roles at home, at work and in life.

Bruce considers his role at Walker to be like a ministry. His job has allowed him to spend time with people from all over the world and from many different backgrounds. He enjoys making a difference in people’s lives by encouraging them and praying with them, and his desire is to positively influence those who will follow after him. Bruce continues to find ways to help and serve people every single day.
