A Brief History about Bob

Selling lawn mowers is where Bob Clancy combines his love of people with his background in finance. After several years in the banking industry, Bob shifted his skills to selling outdoor power equipment. As Walker’s sales manager, he enjoys interacting with people from around the world during his visits throughout the sales channel. Each summer, he finds himself energized by Walker’s sales training (which he affectionately refers to as “lawn mower summer camp”). Spending time with people appeals to Bob, and he appreciates seeing the Walker Mower in action at home and across the globe.

During his travels, Bob enjoys hearing customers’ stories about how the Walker Mower is making a difference in their lives. He says, “The coolest part of the job is literally crossing an ocean and being 10,000 miles away and you see a Walker Mower.” Learning about the mower’s impact on the marketplace resonates with Bob’s background in economics. He finds it exciting to watch a mower’s progression from raw metal in the factory to a product that can be used to provide for a family. Recently, Bob met a customer who runs a soil restoration business using Walker’s products. According to Bob, “You get a chance to meet so many different people and from this seat, I can see the full spectrum of how this product is really impacting people’s lives. We get to see the whole arc. We get to see how it’s made all the way down to seeing the end customer.” These stories, along with meeting new people and having new experiences, keeps Bob’s role fresh and exciting and fuels his enthusiasm for selling lawn mowers.

Bob points to Max Walker’s example as a good leader who provided opportunities for others (one of Walker’s guiding principles), a belief Bob shares. “Doing business with our distributors, dealers, and end customers leaves everyone better off than if we were to do something on our own,” he says. “God can impact others’ lives more than we can imagine. God can take our little efforts and multiply them.” In his role, Bob wants to be a person who helps others and provides opportunities for people that they wouldn’t otherwise have had.
